Care & Framing

These works are made to outlast all of us. Reasonable care is all they ask in return.

Light

Hang away from direct sunlight. Even archival pigments fade over decades if hit with strong UV daily. North-facing walls, hallways, dining rooms, and bedrooms are ideal. Avoid placement directly opposite south-facing windows.

Humidity

Avoid humid spaces: bathrooms, near kitchens with regular steam, exterior walls in monsoon climates. Aim for 40-55% relative humidity. If your home is in a coastal city, a small dehumidifier in the room of a Limited Edition is a smart investment.

Before framing

All AWEDICT prints ship rolled in archival tissue, unframed and unmounted. Until you frame the piece, keep it rolled in its tube, away from heat and moisture. Unroll it only on a clean, dry surface, and handle the print by its edges.

Framing your print

Framing is yours to choose. Here's what works:

  • Local framing in wood: solid teak or oak, natural finish, 25-35mm depth. Pairs beautifully with the warm devotional palette.
  • Gallery white: for modern spaces. Matt finish, 20-30mm depth.
  • Gold-leaf or brass-leaf wooden: for sacred-art-traditional spaces. Especially good for Krishna, Lakshmi, Vishnu pieces.
  • For paper prints, ask your framer for acid-free archival matting and UV-protective glazing.
  • Canvas editions arrive unstretched; any good framer can stretch them on standard bars before framing.
  • Open Editions slot into any standard 12"×16" or 18"×24" frame from a framer or art supply store.

Hanging

Once framed, the weight depends on your framer's choice of frame and glazing. Large framed pieces can be heavy. Use anchored wall hooks rated for at least double the framed piece's weight; your framer can tell you the final figure.

Cleaning

Dust gently with a soft, dry microfibre cloth: no liquids, no sprays, no chemical cleaners. Clean any glazing only with guidance from your framer, and never spray liquid near the print.

Long-term care

Every five years or so, take the piece off the wall, dust the frame and glazing, and check the back for any moisture marks. If everything looks dry and clean, rehang. Done.

If you spot any change in the artwork (colour shift, water damage, scratches), email us right away at hello@awedict.com. We can usually advise on restoration.
